The Elysee Palace is a particular structure which is located in the Kapurthala district of Punjab. In the present day the monument is served as a school named MGN Public School. The place populate all over the state of Punjab for its architectural and historical beauty.

Elysee Palace Architecture

The building is known for its architectural beauty which has a strong influence of the French and Indian architecture style. While emerging with the idea of building the palace, Kanwar Bikrama Singh decided to take the help of the French architect. Though the kingdom of Kapurthala was under the threat from British during that time, the king remained firm with his decision to contrast the fort. The exterior of the fort is tinted in pink which clearly shows the French influence in the palace. There is large vacant area in front of the palace which is cemented. There is also a garden in front of the palace which further enhances its beauty. There is a large fountain at the front end of the palace which is still functional in the present day. The statue of big sized real like animals in front of the fort is also a major feature of the palace and its architecture. There is a tiger made of metal and steel which is kept at the rear end of the place. All these features ensures a worth visit for the people.

Elysee Palace History

Historical records suggest that the palace was made under the reign of Kanwar Bikrama singh. The palace was started building in the early years of the 18th century and complete specifically in the year 1862. It is one of the most well preserved palaces in Punjab and its beauty has remained intact over the years. The palace is built in a area of 300 acres is a mid-sized structure which is situate 36km away from Jalandhar. The raja was one of the most influential Sikh leaders ruled in Kapurthala in between the period of 1835-1887. He had a philanthropist approach towards the needy. It was during his reign in the 19th Century that he decided to build the Elysee Palace. During the period cost of the palace was around 3.4 million rupees which is converted to be 400 crore in the present day scenario. The building was possessed by the raja as his personal residence and his family members in the later years. He was quite friendly with Jagatjit Singh who built the Jagatjit Palace in Kapurthala. After few years, when the king shifted in Jalandhar, he built another palace in the name i.e. Bikram Hall which was used by his family in the later years.

With regard to tourism, the Elysee palace is worth a visit owing to its architectural and historical importance. Though it is being used as a school in the present day, the place still holds a great site for visitors to spend some quality moments during thier leisure time. The exterior of the palace has a fountain and big statue of animals which can again be considered as great site. Moreover, the palace is located in Kapurthala where one can reach conveniently through private vehicles or public transport which will again attract the visitors to an extent. Thier is also a garden in front of the place where visitors can stand and get a panoramic view of the palace. Overall, the palace holds major attractions for the tourism sector.
