The Kirateshwar Mahadev temple is located in the western region of Sikkim and thereby is one of the oldest temples of the state. It is located along the banks of the river Rangeet. The Kirateshwar Mahadev temple is just 4 km away from Pelling and is at a very less distance from the Pemayangtse and Geyzing Monasteries.

The Kirateshwar Mahadev Temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and devotees of Lord Shiva come from around the world to visit this holy and pious place. There is a foot suspension bridge which takes the devotees towards the temple. Legend has it that the very place at which the Kirateshwar Mahadev Temple is situated today is the place where Lord Shiva appeared before Arjuna after great penance and devotions. It is believed that this temple is a symbolic representation of Lord Shiva's blessings to Arjuna. And the blessing which Arjuna received was to have immense success in the war which later on became an epic in the history that is, "the Mahabharatha". And it is with this very belief that whenever someone comes on the door step of Lord Shiva, he shall not return empty handed as Lord Shiva dint let the belief of Arjuna go in vain and not just appeared before him but also gave him blessings.

Bala Chaturdesi is one of the most famous celebrated festivals, which is celebrated with immense enthusiasm and joy in the Kirateshwar Mahadev temple. The celebration is accompanied by religious rituals like Aarti, distributing religious sweet (Prasad), narrating religious hymns and fasting. If you do not want to miss this festival then you shall have to visit the temple between the months November and December. It is believed that once the visitor wishes whole heartedly at this very temple, his wishes shall be fulfilled by Lord Shiva himself.
