Alappuzha Temples, Kerala »


Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple is a vast Hindu temple built near the backwaters of gods own county. This temple is built by an aristocrat in between 15th to 17th century AD. The Ambalappuzha is the town name where this famous Sri Krishna Temple is located. This is the 2nd largest Sri Krishna temple after the popular one at Guruvayur. This temple is also known to place the Guruvayur idol in this temple when the Mysore King Tipu sultan extended his Kingdom towards the south Kerala.



Chakkulathukavu Sree Bhagavathi Temple is an ancient Hindu Goddess shrine located in Thiruvalla in between the Pampa and Mani Mala Rivers. Since it's located near to the holy river waters named this place a Neerettupuram in Malayalam literally mean holy water land. This is a local goddess of this place and worshiped since the past 3000 years by its villagers. This temple is open throughout the year and conducts the annual temple festival very grandly.



This temple is located in the district of Alappuzha at Chettikulangara and is dedicated to the goddess which takes on the form of three deities that change according to the time of the day. The temple is known to have three Kara's or territories and this particular Chettikulangara Devi temple is at the centre of the four main territories. The Sree Krishnaswamy Temple is located in the Alappuzha district of Kerala in a place named Evoor. This temple is said to have originated over five millenias ago following Khandava Dahanam. The temple was burnt down about a century and a half ago when the sanctum sanctorum caught fire.

The temple has been built on the eastern bank of Vellayani Lake and is one the most revered temples in the state.
