Chandi Devi Temple is a famous Hindu Goddess temple located at Haridwar Town of Uttrakhand in India. It is beautifully located on the Hilltop of Neel, which has an altitude of 2900 meters from the mean sea-level. From here the flow of the Hindu holy River Ganges can be seen with heavenly grace. This temple has got a rope way from where the entire scenic surrounding can be seen at greater heights.

Chandi Devi Temple Religious Significance

Chandi Devi is an incarnation of Goddess Parvathi. This goddess is worshiped as a Divine Mother and the Hindu women's profoundly worship her as Maa (Mother). Many comes her to get blessings from this Devi. It is also belived that the Chandi Devi enters in the womens body for few minutes and make her unconcious and dance at the temple plcace, this happen with those womes, who come with pure devotions. Such kind of womens dancing in a divie state is a common scene here. It is also believed that any un-full filled wishes can come true after getting her blessing from this temple. Festival at Chandi Devi Temple

The Chandi Chaudas is the main festival celebrated here. It is a grand festival with lots of pilgrim coming here to get blessings and perform rituals here. This temple is also visited by, when the nearby temples conducts its festivals. This temple is always filled with devotees and there is no special season to visit this Chandi Maa. The pilgrims whoever visiting hardwar will come to Chandi Devi templs also. The uttrakhand festivals also attracts many devotees to this templs.

Chandi Devi Temple Mythology & History

There are many legends behind this Chandi Devi Temple. As per Hindu historic records, the main idol of Chandi Devi was placed here by the great saint known as the Adhi Shankara in the 8th century AD. The new temple as seen in the present shape is built by the Kashmir King Suchat Singh in the year 1929 AD. The puranas or the Ancient Hindu text has a legendry story for Chandi Devi. It is believed that two demons named the Nishumba and the Sumba conquered the heavenly kingdom of gods and they captured God Indra and throw him down in the Himalayas. God Indra meditates here for help and the Lord Shiva's wife Parvathi Devi came down to earth as Chandrika to kill these demons and save Indra Dev. She defeated the demons and God Indra was relieved from the earth to his heavenly Kingdom. After this victory the Chandrika Devi abode here for few days. Hence this temple was dedicated for her in the ancient times to rememebr her legends on the Himalayas.

Chandi Devi Temple Architectural Significance

Chandi Devi Temple is found in the North India architectural form. It is a cute temple built on the edges of Shivalik Hills, which has an altitude of 9500 feet. To reach this temple one has to get few miles steps built of rock cuts and stone block steps. These steps lead you to the main temple place. The entrance of the temples has few mandapas (porch) and it leads to the main temple doors. It is a granite structure in the square shape and has a triangular shaped tower on it. The main deity found here is a single stone carved beautiful female deity. Recently the rope ways are introduced to its pilgrims also side the temple path way steps.
