Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple is a famous Hindu pilgrim place located at Bhagamandala Town, Coorg District of Karnataka in India. The Lord Shiva is the main deity of this temple. This is also a holly and sacred place to perform rituals for the deceased person in the Triveni Sangamam. This is meeting point of three rivers known as the Kanike, Cauvery and Sujyoth. A dip in this river and worshiping at this temple is considered to be holly by the Hindu peoples. The main devotees of this temple are the Shivicks, they are the believers of lord Shiva and do practice few customs and visit this temple on special occasions and during festival times. This temple does conduct its annual festival in the month of October. It is visited by many numbers of devotees from its state and by its bordering state.

Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple Religious Significance

Lord Shiva is known as a Yogi, Transformer and lord for the deceased. It is a belief that Shiva must be worshiped with a great penance, customs and rituals. This temple does have the ditties of Ganesha, Vishnu and the Subramaniya Swamy. The lord Shiva is places in the central areas of this temple. The other ditties are found on the adjacent places. On the occurrence of Thula Sankaramana, a special star visible in the October month. On this event many pilgrims used to take a dip in the nearby river and worship here for prosperity. Many devotees come here on the August month's New Moon day to give offering for the deceased family members. This is done on the banks of the river located near this temple. The annual festival conducted here is known as the Hutari festival, which is commonly celebrated in the month of October. This festival attracts many pilgrims to this temple.

Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple Mythology & History

The story of this temple is date backed to ancient times. It is believed that a sage was responsible to build this temple. He was a Shiva devotee known as Bhaganda Muni. He made a Shiva Linga here. Since then this temple was called by his name as the Bhagandeshwara Temple. The sangamamam of three rivers are also considered as a holy place. This temple is also built near these three rivers joining place and makes it's more sacred and holy for the pilgrims. Since rivers are also considered as life by the Hindus.

Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple Architectural Significance

Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple is built in a typical Malabar traditional temple model. These are basically built with laterite stones and woods. This temple to have beautiful carved wood works found in the major parts of this temple. It has a maximum of two stories. The roofs are beautiful covered with terracotta tiles. These roofs are in a pediments style on its each floor. There are also few small complexes built for is other ditties, these looks very cute. It does have many miniature works on woods. There are many mural found here. These are mostly the colors extracted from various vegetables naturally. These painting depict few Vedic stories and look very attractive on its art work. There are many floral designs found on this temple. These are running throughout this temple structure. It has got a very vast temple ground on its front. This is the place were all function and festival is conducted. It main entrance is very beautiful with a 3 storied tower with fine terracotta tiles on its slanting edges. There is lot of space left in between each complexes inside this temple. This is a great place to see the Kerala architectural works in Karnataka. The main deity of Linga found here is really unique one to worship.
