Properties - Pyrite is the most common among the sulfide. The pale brass yellow color had earned its nickname as "fool's gold". In ancient roman times this name pyrite is given to those stones that create sparks when struck against steel. It associates with those sulfides and quartz veins, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks as well as in coal beds. It is cubic, faces may be striated but also frequently octahedral. It is often inter-grown, massive and radiated. It is not soluble in water. This crystal is isometric diploidal. The tenacity is brittle and it is paramagnetic.
