Cooch Behar Monuments, West Bengal »


Cooch Behar Palace is the key attraction and a legendary milestone of Cooch Behar city of West Bengal. Cooch Behar Palace is also known as Victor Jubilee Palace. This wonderful palace was created in the year 1887 AD during the sovereignty of King Nripendra Narayana. Presently the palace is under the supervision of Archaeological Survey of India.

Indian Museum is one of the biggest and eldest museums of entire Asian region. It was established by 'Asiatic Society of Bengal' in the year 1814. The creator of the museum was Nathaniel Wallich, a Danish botanist.



Victoria Memorial is one of the most attractive innovations in Kolkata of West Bengal. It was created in order to memorialise the peak period of British sovereignty in India. The groundwork of Victoria Memorial was placed by the Prince of Wales in the year 1906 and it was installed in the year 1921 according to the memory of Queen Victoria of England. Warren Hastings House is one of the legacy constructions of West Bengal. It is situated in Alipore of Kolkata. As the name suggest, it is originally the nation house of Warren Hastings, the governor of India during the period of 1775 to 1785. This heritage construction was later developed as government guest house by Colonel Curzon, the viceroy of India in the year 1901.



The Fort found in the Eastern banks of River Hooghly, Calcutta (Kolkata) is William Fort, which is truly an architectural splendor that depicts the beauty of architectural excellence during British India. The imperial building today is the base of the Indian army of the eastern wing and Eastern Command Head Quarter of Indian Army. The name of the Fort is kept after the name of the King William III from England Ireland and II of Scotland.



Chandraketu's Fort is basically a place which is characterised by ruins of a big area characterised by various ancient constructions of 6th century. Situated in Berachampa village of North 24 Paragana of West Bengal, Chandraketu's Fort was established by king Chandraketu. In 1858, when the power was transferred from the East India Company to the British Crown it gradually became the official residence of the Viceroy of India. As Delhi became the capital in 1911, the Raj Bhawan became the official residence of Lieutenant Governor of Bengal. According to history, king Shashanka ruled over the palace is during 7th century. After the demise of Shashanka, Jayaskandhavara become the ruler of the place for a short period of time. The palace which is situated in Karnasubrana was supposed to the capital of Anga territory and presently only its ruins are existed. Legend also states that Anga was the empire of the prince of Kaurav namely Duryodhana and he bestowed the authority of the territory to the generous king Karna.



Tomb of Alivardi Khan is a popular cemetery situated in reverse bank of Bhagirathi river of Murshidabad in West Bengal. It is also known as Khushbagh or Garden of Happyness. It buries Alivardi Khan, the nawab of Bengal. Apart from Alivardi Khan, this place is also reputed as the burial place of his mother, his grandson, Nawab Siraj-ud-Dulah and his grandson's wife Luff-un-nisa.



Tomb of Sujauddin is a popular historical place, situated in the array of river Bhagirathi in Murshidabad of West Bengal. It is popularly termed as 'Sujauddin's Mosque' or 'Garden of Joy'. In accordance with the inscription of the tomb, it was created by Nawab Sujauddin during the period of 1727 AD to 1739 AD. It is possibly one of the earliest monuments in Murshidabad.
