The fort is located in a small island situated in the Anchuthengu Island in Varkala. The place has a long history at its back owing to the residence of the Portuguese and the Dutch rulers in the past. The fort is located amid the sea and backwaters within the island. The fort was primarily built in between the period of 1690 to 1695 by the East India Company to endorse trade. With the use of the fort the company used to conduct trade with various other countries with waterway as the prime mainly in the northern side of the fort.



Government Art Museum in Trivandrum is well planned and built in a vast areas covered by woods and little mounts. It occupied some of the few rare structures, which were once the official place for British-India officers. The buildings found here were mostly mansions, which were converted in to museum. Its nearby woods were converted as Zoo. These structures were a typical Kerala architecture pattern. These are mostly built on red mount blocks, clay bricks and granites.



The Halcyon Castle is built in the colonial architectural style, prevailed in that time in Kerala. This is pure granite structure on 65 acres of land area. It is said that the 'Agasthiya Malai' on the Western Ghats region were quarried to bring rock stones to the construction of this castle. Nearly 800 hard laborers were employed and 200 skilled artisans were used to construct this splendid structure within a decade span of time. There are up to three floors constructed for various purposes.



Koyikkal Palace is built at a 68 meter elevated land area surrounded by coconut palm trees in Nedumangad Village. It is a large square structure built in 2 stories. The raw materials of this building are mount clay brick, lime stones, clay tiles and woods. This palace is built on the traditional Kerala architectural pattern. Its roof was slanting downwards from its 1st floor and the top ceiling, which gives a look of typical Kerala model of housing. Its roofing is laid done by terracotta tiles all over the palace.



The museum has a sign of modern day architecture as it was completed in 18-20 years back. The design and construction of the museum depicts a horizontal alignment. The interior of the structure has domed ceiling which serve as a screen for the celestial bodies and other astral objects while they project images over it. There is also a sky theatre within the museum where light and sound shows are held on a day to day basis.



The monument has a long history associated with it mainly because of its importance in the political history of Kerela. In the initial days i.e. 1933, various administrative buildings such as 'Government Secretariat Complex', 'Sree Moolam Popular Assembly' and 'Chitra State Council' were used for political affairs. However, after India got independent from the British rule, the Assembly Hall Travancore was used by the state government of Kerela.



Kowdiar Palace is the master piece of Kerala Architectural marvel. It is built on 100 acres of Land area on a small hilltop above 300 meters above the sea level. This location is chosen as it didn't have any obstacles in between and provide a fresh breeze of winds from the Arabian Sea from its west side. It was also placed in such a coordinates that wind always flows inside the palace from its all windows and doors from the South West Monsoon and the retreading North East Monsoon.



Kanakakunnu Palace is built in the new British Era model. It has all the necessary modern equipments and amenities inside this palace. This palace is built on a small citadel which is above ground level. It is a single storied building. This is situated in a vast pasture land. Inside this palace there is a beautiful garden with unique landscaping work. This palace is constructed of granite stones, which is quarried from its nearby places. These are mostly used in the foundation works.
