Sikandar Shah's Tomb is the burial place of the last Sultan of Champaner. This is a huge stone structure built beautifully here. It has the mark of sultanate history in the Gujarat province. This tomb is 488 years now and looks very beautiful. It is situated near Halol, Champaner City, Panchmahal District of Gujarat State in India.

Sikandar Shah Tomb Architecture

Sikandar Shah's Tomb is a huge stone structure built in sand stones. It is a similar tomb structure of those found in the medieval Era in India. It is built on the Islamic pattern of architecture. This is moreover found in a hexagonal and circular shape. This tomb has few unique symmetry parts. It has got a huge arched gateway. One can find the similar gateway on the back side too. The main building has a pillared corridor all around this tomb. There are few chambers found here. The central area was left for the tomb. It top has got a beautiful circular dome. This dome is the highest and the largest dome. There are also other dew small pillared domes on the edges of its main walls. All together the big dome is found surrounded with these small domes as an artistic work in its design. It s tombs are found in very simple state. It dint had any huge structures on it. Instead it was built in a small elevated area in a rectangular shape. It has only a small stone slab. These are well beautifully carved according to Islamic style. There are also two other tombs built here. The masonry work is really appreciable. The outer structure has many stone art works on this building; these are mostly found on the top areas of this tomb. There are unique carvings of floral art works, which run across these inner complexes. There are also many geometrical patterns found here. All of this art work is done by skilled artisans. Each and every pillar has its own carving art on it. Inside one can find many high pillars supporting its main roofs. There are very minute designs nearby its ceilings. These when absorbed is looking great and appreciable for its caring activity on these top areas. Rom the tomb area, if one looks up will be amazed to see its stone art works. This is the place where you can find the symmetry of its architecture. There are also many single stone art work found here.

Sikandar Shah Tomb History

Sikandar Shah's Tomb was a great ruler of his time. He was killed by Imad-ul-Mulk in the year 1526 AD. His dead body was buried here thereafter. His brother named Nasir Khan and Latif Khan were also buried here. This tomb stood her as the land mark of the Sur dynasty later. They were the very great rulers in the Gujarat province. It was a Muslim ruler, who encouraged many art and crafts work in Champaran region in those days. The present Islamic structures were built by them. The Sur Dynasty came to an end after the death of Sikandar Shah. Later parts saw the empire expansion by the Rajputs, the Mughal and the Colonialist in this area. But this tomb was totally untouched by them and honored this burial place. His tomb's central doom got ruined little bit in the recent times. It was repaired now. The state government is taking care to prop up it as a heritage site.
