Sheesh Mahal found in Gurgaon is large palace with the theme of Glasses on its interior of its palace area. Shisha in Hindi means Glass and Mahal means the Palace hence named Sheesh Mahal. This mahal is 281 years old and belonged to the Mughal Era palace structure found in India. This mahal is of historic, social and cultural influence. It is located near Old Anaj Mandi, Farukh Nagar Municipality Town in Gurgaon District of Haryana State in the North India.

Sheesh Mahal Architecture

Sheesh Mahal was built in the Mughal Rule and this entire structure is designed on the Mughal architectural style. This mahal is totally built with red sand stones, clay bricks, granite block, woods, marbles and glasses. This palace is a large rectangular structure with open space in the center. This consists of many other small complexes apart from the main palace areas meant for its servant classes and storage purposes. It is constructed in three floors totally with few domes on its top. This palace is a very good place to see the Mughal art work. All its pillars are well carved with beautiful designs found here. It has got wooden ceilings on all its floors. There are many contemporary and floral designs found on the interior of its building. These are breath-taking and awesome with glass fixtures on its carving works. These glass works are fixed along with art works on wooden panels, walls and ceilings of this inner mahal area. These do reflects in the night lamb, which is very beautiful to look. On the inside of the palace there is a pond linked with many water channels which go around this palace area. This has a very good spacious pavilion. Its courtyard is very wide and filled with artistic designs. There are spacious and small halls and verandahs found inside this mahal. This palace is filled with lot of greenery in its surrounding. It once had a beautiful garden in front of this palace. Its windows and are covered with well carved wooden doors. There are open pillared balconies found here. Its craftsmanship is really appreciable. These kind of glass fixed on the interior are seen very rear structures in India. This Sheesh Mahal is one among them.

Sheesh Mahal History

Sheesh Mahal is built in the Mughal Era, when the famous Faruk Siar was the Emperor of India. He was the noted grandson belonged to Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. This mahal was ordered to build in Ambala by the Faruk Siar. Actually this building was built for housing of its governor for Ambala. At that time Faujdar Khan was appointed here and under his supervision this Sishmahal was built on 1733 AD. This was the time when the Mughals were occupying more territories in the province. The Ambala was towards it northern part and Faruk Siar want it to be governed by his administration. Faujda Khan was appointed as the new governor of this are and this palace was specially built for him. He was the first Navab or the Governor in the Mughal Kingdom. This current place is known in his name as Farukh Nagar, which comes under the Gurgoan Municipality area. During his time the Salt Trade was the main profession of its local people and the present Purani Mandi and the Naie Mandi are the result of previously established trade here during the Mughal period. He was a beloved Navab for its people who governed from this palace as his official work place and his residence.
