Rambagh Palace History

Rambagh Palace was the residence of the royal family members for above two eras. Afterwards, the palace was redecorated in a royal guesthouse. The first building of Rambagh Palace was 'Garden House' which was established in the year 1835 by prince Ram Singh II. In the year 1887, during the sovereignty of King Sawai Madho Singh, Rambagh Palace was transformed into an unassertive regal hunting cottage, at the centre of dense forest on that time. In the early 20th century, the cottage was extended into a palace by Samuel Swinton Jacob. King Sawai Man Singh II turned the palace into key residence and further developed several royal structures in the year 1931. After independence, the palace was took over by the government of India. However, by 1950s, it was felt that the maintenance of palace along with the garden was highly expensive and hence, in the year 1957, it was decided that the palace will be transformed into a deluxe hotel. In 1972, Rambagh Palace become an asset of Taj Hotels and converted into one of the premium hotels of Jaipur.
