Information on Purani Haveli (Hyderabad, Telangana) - History & Architecture

Purani Haveli is situated in Patthar Gati, Hyderabad District, Telengana State of India. The Urdu word 'Purani' means Old and 'Haveli' means 'Mansion', put together termed as the Old mansion. It is the residential places for the Nizami royals from the 1880 AD onwards. It is of vast tourist importance since; it is the splendid structure built in the European architecture style. Hyderabad is located in the south central part of India Sub Continent. It is well connected by roads, rails and by flights. It is an international destination of tourism. Locally Chennai and Bangalore is near from south India. Mumbai and Ahmadabad is near from the west, Vijayawada is in the East and Itarsi, Bhopal and Indore are its north junctions. Purani Haveli Architecture

Purani Haveli adopts the early 18th century's European architectural pattern. Many geometrical designs are found in the outer structure like triangular parapet on the windows. The edifice is in a 'U' shaped design. The royal palace is built in the centre is a single storied edifice. This 'U' shaped stricter is of 1000 feet stretch having a parallel wing with double storied edifice. There are large pavilion, floors and halls. It is totally built on Granites and Marbles. There is vast presence of wooden crafts inside the palace. A wooden lift is built here which is manually operated. Its interior is colorful as its Nizami's craftsman's crated in the royal style. On the outer it resembles the European touch on the edifice. It has circular well carved pillars and domes.

Purani Haveli History

Purani Haveli is also called 'Haveli Khadeem'. It was called Purani Haveli since, the Nawab Sikander Jha resided here and moved to a new palace in Khilawat in the year 1829 AD; hence it was his old palace and henceforth called it 'Purani Haveli' in the later years. Its wardrobe found on the western wings is tittles as the longest wardrobe area in the palaces of the worlds. This palace is of great historical importance since, the last Nizami reigns lived here, until the independence of India. Later years their north wings were utilized by the state police force. Many of its floors are converted in the heritage museum by the archeological department. This palace has the valuables of Nizams, which are kept in the museum, well preserved to public viewing.

Purani Haveli Tourism Importance

Purani Haveli is very much important to tourist point of view. It is the only Royal Palace having the last Nizami's antiquities preserved here as in its state. The later part of modern era utilities like Vintage cars of Mark V of Jaguar make, Packard, and a Rolls-Royce are seen kept outside the palace for tourist viewing. Here there are royal luxury hotels in ancient monuments, which are highly appreciable to stay there. There are also budget hotels and resorts everywhere in Hyderabad. If you want to see its social culture you must visit here in all Islamic festival time. It is open to public from 10 AM to 5 PM. The entry fee is Rs.70 per head and depends on age and ethnicity.
