The Vidhan Sabha of Punjab also known as the Punjab Legislative Assembly is positioned in Punjab India. The monument is specifically located in the Sector 1 Capitol complex. It serve as a political seat of Chandigarh from the 6th day of March 1966.

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Architecture

The design of the building is credited to Le Corbusier of French. It was during designing the city of Chandigarh and the Capitol complex that Vidhan Bhavan was designed. It has extensive depiction of the French architecture. It also has the depiction of the ancient Indian architecture. This particular monument depicts the unique art of the modern day as per the supervision of French architect. As an architect he was engaged with various others governmental projects in India. The building is made with a conceived horizontal and rectilinear structure where it faces directly to the main plaza of the capitol complex. Notably, the two legislative chambers within the Bhavan are enclosed with straight shell which provides the structure with a great view. There is also Sun protection on the lateral walls of the monument which prevents directs effects of sun on the monument. There are chambers inside the monument which are used for conducting informal meetings. There is also separate space within the monument which is used for circulation purpose. There is also huge hyperbolic tower in the exterior of the fort which rises above the height of the roof of the monument. The monument was built mainly with the use of concrete.

Punjab Vidhan Sabha History

It is known that Chandigarh is a planned city that was built after the independence of India. The city along with the capitol complex was designed by the famous French architect Le Corbusier. Notably, the monument was built in the year 1962. It was the part of a 13 guide project that was allotted to Le Corbusier. The monument serve as a secretariat assembly for both the places of Haryana and Chandigarh collectively. Its use was started in the year 1966 as a Legislative assembly for the state of Punjab and Haryana. There are more than 117 political personnel that can be found inside the monument during the meeting for political reasons. In the year 1952, the legislative assembly of the state was a bicameral house which was divided into the upper and lower house named Vidhan Sabha as well as Vidhan Parishad respectively. In the year 1956 the seat of the state government increased by a considerable number owing to which a new structure was in extreme need. In this regard, the Vidhan Bhavan was completed building in the year 1962 and was occupied by the year 1966. Charanjit Singh Atwal is the official speaker of the Vidhan Bhavan of Punjab and Haryana. The monument was inaugurated by the than Prime Minister of India Sri. Jawaharlal Nehru.

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Tourism Importance

The monument though used extensively for political purpose, is not directly used to attract tourism. People intends to visit the place need to take special permission owing to security concern. The monument provides an architectural beauty of French art. Moreover, the structure is so huge in size that people can see it from quite a distance. There is a pool in front of the structure. At night, the Vidhan Bhavan is provides a visual treat for the tourists. Hence, it is apparent that people visiting capital complex in Chandigarh can also have additional experience of the beauty of the Bhavan.
