Kunchan Smarakam Fort is a built in the traditional Kerala architectural style. It was built for the Thullal dance form and it had many arenas to perform these dance patterns. This smarakam is laid in the low level areas of Pal Ghats. This smarakam used teak woods, granites, large clay bricks, lime stones and terracotta tiles. It has a single storied main edifice to practice indoors, which is the large hall supported with wooden pillars and stone pillars.



The Palakkad fort is constructed in the square shape, with huge and gigantic walls and with the strong fortresses around all the corners of the fort and also in the middle or center. The fort entrance during the early times used to be through the draw bridge, which later was come into being as the permanent one, after it was replaced. The huge ground is located at the center of the fort and used to serve as the stable for the Tipu Sultan's elephants and steeds which were the armies, in the battle field.
