The Lothal is a particular place, which has its resemblance with the ancient Indus valley civilization. The place is positioned in the Bhuj city of Gujarat. The place is specifically constructed in the Dholka Taluka of Ahmedabad district. One can found the place at a distance of six kilometer in the south eastern side of Ahmadabad Bhavnagar railway route.

Lothal Architecture

Architecturally, the town has its own beauty. Though the people of the Lothal city construct a new place entirely many old features were kept intact. There is a shadow bay which was positioned to attach the flowing canal to the mooring for the purpose of cleaning the ships. Houses that are present within the city were reconstructed but without the removal of the debris caused by flood. This impacted the strength of the city to an extent. The Lothal city has an ancient well along with a city drainage canal which is one of its kind of the Indus civilization. Again the Lothal acropolis is well known as the town center as it is the political and communication heart of the city. The main city which has 127.4 meter wide area has three main streets and two tracks which were mostly in the northern side. The sides of the acropolis within the city is around 12.2 - 22.4 meter in terms thickness and 2.1 - 3.6 meter in terms of height. It has also been noted that the Lothal city has a complete set of terra-cota gamesmen and animal figure. It also has a pyramid with ivory handles which depicts the Egyptian architecture.

Lothal History

Notably, prior to the Harrappan people came in, the Lothal was constructed. After a flood in the village in which the village foundation and settlements was destroyed in the year C. 2350 BCE. Subsequently, the Harrappani took this as an opportunity to enlarge their settlement and to establish a new strategic township on the superior side of the Indus valley civilization. Furthermore, the people of the village tried to engage themselves towards task that can protect the area from flood in the future context. After construction the people in the place divided it into in to two blocks of 1 - 2 meter - height. The platforms within the town were established with bricks and mud with each servings of 20 - 30, which is equal to the materials required for building a number of houses together. The city also had an acropolis which were used as residence by most of the rulers during that period. The city has some of the most attractive features like paved baths, underground drains as well as a potable water well among others. There is also a Major Street in the southern region, which was often described as profitable area of the city. Notably, most of the space of this market has shops of rich and conventional traders.
