Kota Fort is located on the banks of Chambel River in Kota District of Rajasthan State in India. The Kota name itself means the 'Fort', which are commonly seen in these areas. These fortifications were the master foundation of the Rajput Empire building in the Kota District of Rajasthan. This is the place where large numbers of forts are present of the entire Rajasthan State. This is a very historical and cultural place of Rajput kingdom from 16th century AD on wards. The Kota Fort is in the heart of city with many palaces and museum inside this fortress.

Kota Fort Architecture

Kota Fort was built over a very large span of time. It was the first bastion build over here to set up a central commanding place and palace of this city. From the 16th century to the 18th century there were many structures added in its portions. The location of this fortress is on the banks of Chambel River, which adds it beauty to this fort. This place is 271 meters above the sea level. Its ramparts are the highest in the entire Rajasthan region. The entire fort and its complexes are built of literaite stones, lime stones, red sand stones, and yellow sand stones. These structures followed many architectural patterns in the history of time. There is mostly Rajput architecture seen with combination of the Mughals of Islamic style. The colonial impacts were seen in some parts of these complexes, which are Rajput and Victorian combination in art works. There are also the Indo Saracenic patterns of architecture found on the newly built structures of the 19th century AD. There are six large double gates found on this fortress. It consist of many beautiful palace complexes, were the royal Rajputs lived in. it has got many towers on its main structures, which was built to keep a vigil of this city. Inside there are beautiful gardens and temples found here. There are also unique craftsmanship found of sculptors, furniture's both made of wood and stones. There are also many murals depicting the royal rulers and the Rajput cultures are painted here. Presently, it's standing great as the City Palace in the present times.

Kota Fort History

Kota Fort and its location are known from the medieval period itself. According to historians, this place was formed by the Rajput clans in the year 12th century AD as part of expansion plans towards the east and central India. In the 17th century AD, it was captured by the Mughal ruler named Jahangir. During these times it did had some Islamic influences over its art and culture. This Kota place was previously known as the Bundhi and the Radothi regions of Rajput princely states. The famous king who fought against the Mughal aggression was the Maharaja Rao Bhim Singh ji. This fortress was also attacked by the Marathwad rules. In the year 1817 AD, the British East India Company (BEIC) led a helping hand to make it as separate state for their blood relations and the present Jhalawar City was the consequence of its treaty with the BEIC. The forts were the main building blocks to form an empire. This Kota Fort also one of the forts in India for great empire expansion led by the Rajput Kings. This place was a prominent trade centre in the time of BEIC, which routed towards the Bombay and Delhi in its trade.
