The Kanthkot fort is positioned in a particular place called Kanthkot town. The fort is specifically located in Bhachau Taluka of Vagad part of the Kutch district of Gujarat. Notably, the fort is located at a distance of 100 kilometer from Bhuj. Notably, it was during the 8th century the fort was known as the capital of Kathis. However, after that the fort have been taken from them by the Chavdas in the later history.

Kanthkot Fort Architecture

It was extensively known that the Kanthkot fort was manufactured in the mid 8 century. There are three temples that can be seen within the fort which further have a countless architectural importance in the history of its existence. It has been observed that the fort was mainly constructed with the help of huge blocks mended in numerous places within the surrounding. The fort has a sun temple which shows the image of the god of sun with folded hands which is again one of the major feature of the fort. This is the only sun temple that can be found in this particular region. One of the rulers of the moon dynasty got the palace as a gift in his marriage with the princess another dynasty. There are three small gates and one big gate within the fort which is again depicts its architectural style to an extent. The local architecture was mainly followed to build this particular fort during the 18th century. The fort was mainly built with stone and bricks which has strengthen to an extent. In terms of size, the fort is quite huge which quite an attractive feature is again.

Kanthkot Fort History

The fort was constructed during the region of Jadejas during the 8th century AD. Jadeja belong to Yadu or Chandravanshi rulers of the Moon Dynasty. It is know that the Jadejas are among the 36 dynasties that were of present in the old tracing. Notably, these particular rulers' ruled over a huge part of Kathiawar peninsula and Kutch until India got independence in the year 1947. Kanthkot was assumed as a land of the Dedaji who was known to be the second son of Rao Radhyan Ratna of the Moon Dynasty. In 1816, the large parts of the fort was destroyed by the British owing to enmity with the rulers of the moon dynasty. However, after that particular bad phase, the fort was remained under the Jadeja rulers till the independence of India. In the present day scenario, not much remains of the fort has been well preserved. The hill fort has now leftovers of three temples of which one is devoted to the austere Kanthadnath and the other includes Jain temple and the sun temple.
