The Tomb of Jesal Toral is a particular structure that is located in the Anjar region in the Indian state of Gujarat. The structure is positioned in the Kutch district which has many other forts and monuments that has resemblance with the rich history of the state.

Jesal Toral Tomb Architecture

The tomb has its own architectural importance despite of the fact that it is not a full-fledged structure, palace or monument. The walls in both the interior and exterior of the monument depicts the local architecture of Bhuj through the pictures and sculptures carved in stone walls. The Hindu temple that is being located in front of the tomb was also built following the local style of architecture which can be comprehended from the historical data relevant to the tomb or from the present day remnants. There is a pavilion within the tomb which is entirely made of teak wood and stones were also used in some of the parts. Apart from that there are also some other temples in and around the tomb including the Sawaser Naka, devliya Naka and Jesal Toral Samadhi Bhareswar Kamadeva temple. Though most parts of the tomb have been damaged over the year, still one can find some of the left over parts and witness its rich architecture.

Jesal Toral Tomb History

Historically, Anjar is often seen as one of the most beautiful and the oldest cities or places in Gujarat. The place has many attractive forts and structures which includes the Tomb of Jesal Toral as well. The tomb is also known as the center of all fairs owing to magnificence and importance. The tomb is placed at a distance of 40 km from the city of Bhuj, Gujarat. The fact that the tomb is 500 years old further depicts the rich historical heritage associated with it. However, apart from the tomb, the city itself is more than 1100 years old which is again quite interesting to note. There is a temple in front of the tomb which is still being used for religious purpose by the devotees in an around the place. The temple i.e. Bhareswar Mahadev temple is also one of the oldest in the city. The tomb is named after a notorious robber i.e. Jesal while the name Toral came from a female prophet i.e. Sati Toral. The importance of the tomb can also be understood from the fact that it has the Samadhi of Jesal Toral. There is a cottage in front of the tomb which was once used by James Mcmurdo for residence. However, in the present day context, the cottage is converted into an authentic museum which shows the Kutch art. The museum is quite popular for its block printing, scissors and nutcrackers among others.

Some state Anjar to be the oldest city of Kutch and Gujarat as it was founded roughly in the 650 AD.
