Hawa Mahal or the wind palace is situated in the pink city of Bada Choupad area, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. It is a magnificent monument built in 1799 Ad by the Rajput King 'Maharaja Pratap Sigh'. This kind of structure is of rare kind in the world. The specialty of this structure is it enables cool wind in the hot weather conditions. Or one can feel cool environment throughout the year in this monument. So is called the palace of wind. It is a major tourist attraction place in Jaipur. Hawa Mahal is a splendid architectural master piece. It was designed by 'Lal Chand Ustad' who was a city planner in the court of 'Maharaja Pratap Singh'. The entire works maintained the Rajput and the 'Mughal' architectural designs. It is 15 meter in height with 953 windows placed on the exterior front. These windows are well carved with wooden grills and panels. There are many small and small rooms in the palace and it was a guest house for 'Maharaj Pratap Singh' for some occasions. From a longer distant view, the Hawa mahal will be looking like a crown, which resembles a similar to the 'Lord Krishna' in the 'Vedic text of Mahabharata'. The Hindus believed that the design was kept in the crown model itself. This mahal was a gift to the royal women patronage of Rajputs clans. This was built on pink and red sand stones, which glows in the sun shine.

Since, they were restricted to come out in populace places, and were insisted to wear a women's calf on their face named 'Phardas'. It is also noted by historians that theses royal women's were given freedom to look up on the city life in this manner. Whatever may be the reason; this monument is a remarkable landmark in Jaipur. It is also said that this hawa mahal was an extended work made to 'Royal City palace'.
