Hatgadh Fort is hill top fortress found in the Saputara Hill ranges in Gujarat. It is a very famous all time hill station with natural and cultural values in it. This is a splendid fort located at the Saputara Hills in Dang District of Gujarat State in India. This place is also near to Maharashtra State.

Architectural Importance

Hatgadh Fort is built in the highest peak of Shyadri ranges in the Gujarat province. It is located at an altitude of 1097 meters above the sea level. This is totally a rock marvel. This fort is built by the rocks cut from the same hills. Most of the rocks were cut from its top and its traces are found here. This hill has got a plateau on its top. There are thick walls built around the bordering places of the cliff of these mountains. One can have a very awesome trekking experience to reach its top of this fortress. There are rocks carved steps built here. These are open at few places and enclosed narrow ways with rocks ranging a height of 5-10 meters in height in between the steps. This makes it amazing by rock caves on its sidings. These caves are seen throughout its way as a rest place. In the monsoon these are looking like cistern. There is also few worship places found here to get the blessing from the hill goddess. There are 2 large water tanks dig here on monolith rocks. The great reservoirs like the Jamuna and the Ganga are also located here. These steps are really looking good with tiny green vegetations on its sides. This path is a narrow and built on rough rocky terrains. Still the level is a medium grade for visitors. There are few ruined structures found on its top. These were mainly the store rooms and magazine house. Presently the walls are looking great and their inner structures are in ruined stage.

Historical Importance

Hatgadh Fort is built by the great Maratha King Chatrapathi Shivaji in the 17th century AD. Shivaji is known to build many structures in his reign. He always captures a fort or builds a fort to safe guard his newly conquered territory. This fort is also built here as the watch tower towards the Nasik area and the inner valleys of the Gujarat. This was a major fortress, since this area was always busy with commercial and its local tribal peoples living here. They were mostly dependent on this hill forest for their lively hood. This was also a trading route to Gujarat from Mumbai. Presently it is an all season amazing hill station and a trekking spot. The Gujarat tourist department has taken all initiative to make it a happening place. There are two festivals conducted here. The famous Tribal festival in the month of Holi is a great gathering place of its tribal peoples and tourist here to buy their traditional handicrafts. It also conducts the monsoon festival, since its look very pleasant in the rains. This season starts from the mid of August and lasts till December. This is the time when this hill station is filled with local and foreign tourists. All its monuments are protected by the Archeological department of India.

Tourism Importance

Hatgadh Fort is a very unique place to see the beauty of the Satpura's dense flora and fauna from their peak fortress. It has the awesome view of the down hills and the great valley towards the Nasik, which is nearing to the Maharashtra State. This is also an all season trekking place and a local week end hang out place. To visit the fort, one would surely have an experience of lifetime as the view of the surrounding hills and amid that the majestic fort create a marvel which depicts the beauty of nature and the man made wonders co-existing over the years, entertaining to the extreme delight. Come and explore the beauty that is simply outstanding and yet you cannot expect to quench your thirst and ask for a second visit or if possible again and again.
