Information on Daria Daulat Bagh Palace (Mysore, Karnataka) - History & Architecture

The Daria Daulat Bagh Palace is a particular monument that is located in the southern end of Mysore in the city of Srirangapatna, Karnataka. The palace is surrounded by beautiful set of gardens which is titled as Daria Daulat Bagh. Tipu Sultan was the prime man that ensured the successful completion of this particular monument.

Daria Daulat Bagh Palace Architecture

The palace was constructed following the 'Indo-Sarcenic' style of architecture. Almost the entire fort is built with the use of pure teakwood. Notably, the place if rectangular in shape and it was constructed on a high platform for which it can be seen from quite a far distance. All the four side of the monument has wooden pillars made of teak further enhancing its beauty. Additionally, the eastern and western side of the monument have walls that support the roof of the entire structure. The monument was designed in such a manner where the staircase is not visible from the audience and the central hall within the fort. However, one of the notable features of the fort is the space between wall and pillars which were filled with painting of Mysore. The exterior of the fort has portraits that show the battle scenes between Tipu Sultan and the British. There are also floral designs in the exterior walls that further increase the architectural beauty of the monument. Furthermore, some of the walls of the monument also depict the victory of Hyder Ali against the English during the 'battle of Pollilur' in the period of 1780.

Daria Daulat Bagh Palace History

Historical reports suggested that the palace was made during the year 1784 under the rule of King Tipu Sultan. The completion of the palace was recorded during the early period of the 18th century in the Wodeyars rule under the leadership of Hyder Ali. The palace has a collection of memorabilia of King Tipu Sultan. It also had figures and paintings relevant to the European style along with the Persian manuscripts within the interior of the palace. The palace also has a museum that has art titled "Storming of Srirangapattanam" developed by 'Robert Ker Porter' during the period of 1800s. Notably, the historical figures within the interior of the monument mainly present the fall Srirangapatana on the 4th day of may 1799. Notably, the army of Tipu provided stiff challenge to the English army during this period. There is also a mosque within the palace that was used by the people for worshipping but it ruined after the death of Tipu. History showcases that it was this particular palace that witnessed the death of Tipu Sultan while fighting with the English army.
