The Chini Ka Rauza is a funerary monument which is just about 1 km from the famous Itmad-ud-Daulah and was constructed in the year 1635. The location of Chini Ka Rauza makes it an even better place to visit as it is situated on the banks of the river Yamuna.

Chini Ka Rauza is considered to be one amongst the famous attractions of the tourists in Agra. The monument got its name from the glazing tiles which played a vital role in its construction, which were bought especially from China. The tomb in the Chini Ka Rauza belongs to the then Prime Minister and poet of Shah Jahan, Allama Afzal Khan.

Chini Ka Rauza Architecture

The monument was the first in the country to be made in the Persian style. It is made from the glaze tiles and mud of China which the name of the monument already depicts. You can find the monument to be covered with colorful tiles and brown stones which are of rectangular shape and adds immense beauty to the monument.

The walls of the monument are having Islamic inscriptions embedded on it which provides the monument with a look which is even more extravagant.

The tomb mainly has a north and south entrances to it and has got unique artwork both in the interiors as well as on the exteriors of the monument. The most colorful tiles work and remarkable artwork is found on the Chajjas, brackets and Balconies of the monument. The arches of the monument look very attractive with the design of the orange and the blue tiles on it. The monument was made during the reign of Shah Jahan that is in the year 1635. It was actually made in the memory of the then Prime Minister of Shah Jahan whose name was Allama Afzal Khan. He was a very famous poet in the darbar of Shah Jahan as well. It was the first monument in the country to be decorated with the glaze tiles which were imported from China. It also used the Chini Mitti in its construction which is commonly called as the Chinese clay. One of the interesting facts about the monument is that it was built during the lifetime of Allama Afzal Khan.
