The Aina Mahal is a particular palace that is located in the Bhuj region in the Indian state of Gujarat. The palace is positioned just next to the famous Prag Mahal. It has been noted that the Mahal is also known as the 'mirror palace' from the days of its inception. The palace is specifically located in the positioned to the north eastern side of the Hamirsar Lake. Most of the remains of the palace have been destroyed in the earthquake 2001.

Aina Mahal Architecture

The interior design of the palace has the look of quite a unique architectural design. There is a hall of mirror within the palace which was created by master artisan, Ram Singh Malam. The floor of the palace is covered with blue delftware tiles which were entirely established under the supervision of Ram Singh. Apart from that the credit of the planning of the entire palace goes to Ram Singh Malam. Another special feature of the palace is the bed whose legs are made with gold. The Mahal has an exclusive touch in terms of architecture. Each and every part of the building was supervised by Ram Singh Malam in the vicinity. The mirror hall of the palace was built with seven full size mirrors. The ceiling and walls of the palace has extensive mirror work which is also an important architectural aspect to be discussed. The chief room of the palace is in the first floor and it was used to address the audience by the raja. The Mahal also has a stunning pendulum timer which has its resemblance to the Hindu datebook.

Aina Mahal History

As per historical records, the palace i.e. Aina Mahal was prepared during the 18th century. It was constructed during the reign of the ruler i.e. Rao Lajhpatji specifically in the year 1761. Notably, Rao Lajpatiji is a member of the famous Jadeja dynasty and was married to Rajendra Kuvar Ba who was the princess of Kishangarh. The family of the raja comprises 2 sons and three daughters. By the year 1997, the Mahal was converted into Madanji museum by the authorities who were managing it. In present day context, the palace is regarded as the jewel of Kutch. The palace also has a 'magical hall of mirror' which is a major attraction. The Mahal has a two storey stone structure which is quite huge in terms of the size. The Mahal was extensively used by the royal family of Rao Lajpatiji for their personal use. There is a separate bedroom within the Mahal especially for Maharao Lajpatji which has a unique interior design.

Tourist who seeks to visit and see the Aina Mahal can come in the month from October to March owing to the aspect that the weather appropriate during this particular period. The temperature in this period is around 20 to 26 degree Celsius. The Aina Mahal is open throughout the year and one can visit the palace in between 9:00 am to 11:45 am and 3:00 pm to 5:45 pm. The entry fees are three rupees per person.
