The Sang Monastery was built in the year 1912 A.D by a villager known as Sang Athing. It is believed that Sang Athing himself was the landowner of the site where the Sang Monastery stands tall today. Legend has it that a local astrologer advised Sang Athing to construct a monastery on his land as according to him it would be useful for the well-being of Sang Athing and his family. And so as a result of the astrologer's advice, Sang Athing built the monastery at the very place.
