According to the tradition when the female Olive Ridley Turtle lays the eggs the activists of SNM takes those egg away and conserve and store the eggs in a safe and proper place until it hatches, in order to protect from other animals and surroundings. Then as soon as the eggs get hatched into tiny little baby Olive Ridley Turtle they are slowly released into the sea. This festival is celebrated around 30 villages of Maharashtra. This festival is a step to conserve and protect the species of Olive Ridley Turtle.
Earlier the scenario was not the same many female Olive Ridley Turtle was killed and sold in the local market in this place. As soon as SNM took initiative in this matter the scenario changed a bit but still when female turtle used to lay eggs it was stolen or vanished many a times, so SNM took the responsibilities to proper maintain of the eggs till it was hatched and released into the sea. As according to the geo-magnetic wave point of view for the locality is permanently embedded into the Turtle brain as the female Turtle return to the same destination for laying their eggs.
It is one of the favourite tourist spot in India. People from far off places come to visit this extraordinary and amazing festival. The breeding of the Female Olive Ridley Turtle was done earlier there are hundreds of eggs laid at once. Around five weeks are taken by those eggs to mature and hatch into the baby Olive Ridley Turtle. These tiny little soft turtles are left into the sea to lead their life. This is done to conserve and protect these turtle.
