Chumpha festival is a harvest festival of Manipur. It is a land of festivals as the people of the place remains busy with one festival through the year. Manipuri people celebrate numerous events that the region never passes silently and each festival is celebrated with joy and happiness. Chumpha festival is one of the most important occasions which are held after the process of reaping crops. Manipur is a land of different races and religions featuring their own cultural events and are celebrated in peace and harmony. Chumpha is an important festival celebrated by the Tangkhul Nagas. These people enjoy the event at the last three days at the end of Harvest and these are the days of rejoicing. A woman plays a vital role in this festival as most of them are participated in this cultural event. During the end of the festival some special gatherings are made by the families, friends and everyone rejoices with jollity and glee.

The word Chumpha means "opening of granary" which is celebrated after the harvest in the month of early December. It takes place every end of the year. It is Tangkhul Nagas of Manipur who celebrates this occasion and it is an important festival of them. They are tribes settled in the Ukhrul district and Somra hills (upper Burma) in Manipur. They celebrate the festival for seven days among which the last three days are the important. It is a great opportunity for women to enjoy the occasion with lots of Joy and cheerfulness. They have a good time with their families and their neighbors. This gives every woman a chance to experience and lay out the responsibilities which is the best way of preserving their art and traditions. Every woman are participated in the occasions and plays innumerable roles. The celebration ends up with a huge procession which is carried out to different villages and towns.
