India is an agricultural prime country and cattle rearing are an important occupation of the people. So in India the buy and the sell of the cattle is an important aspect in the villages and the cattle fairs give enough choices for the farmers to buy or sell their cattle. The famous cattle fairs in India are the Nagaur Cattle Fair, The Sonepur Cattle Fair, the Pusker Mela that get a good attention and wherein a varied and a best breeds of the animals are sworn in from different parts of the country. Lets us see a few in a brief detail here under.

The Nagaur festival is held in the state of Rajasthan usually in the months of January- February every year. It is reputed to be the second biggest firs for the cattle in India. The fair exhibits about 70,000 bulls, which are usually brought in pairs, camels in huge numbers that are decorated in the jewellery and colourful costumes, horses which probably are the first choice of the Rajputs of the Nagaur etc. the people of the Rajasthan can be seen during the fair with their traditional costumes and their amusingly long moustaches. It is a time when the people not only to sell or buy but also to enjoy the colourful and the charming festival. The fair is not only for the beasts but there we can find the handicrafts and ornaments and the most famous of the non animal things found at this fair is the chilli. The "mirchi bazaar" or the chilli market is famous here that sells the red chilli. The added attractions in this fair are the camel races, the bull race and the cock fights that see plenty of betting on their favourite animals and that is all for just the sheer enjoyment of the visitors and the village people.

The other one is the Pushkar fair that is also the major event in the state of Rajasthan. There are the fairs that have earned a name for the country and Pushkar mela is one of the places that have also given an opportunity to the people of the villages to showcase their lifestyle and also earn them the best deals for their cattle. It has most of the similarities of the nagaur but also has special attractions as the "matka phod" and the competition for the longest moustache etc.

The other major event in the line of cattle fairs is the famous Sonepur Mela that is the India's and also the Asia's biggest cattle fair that that is held in the state of Bihar. it is held in the months of November every year and on the place of the confluence of the Ganges and the Gandak rivers. It is held for about 15 to 30 days every year.
