Many of the festivals of the Hindus and the Jains are aligned with the stars in the universe. Many believers are of the perception that there is a cosmic relation between the movement of the stars and the life of people on earth. Just like the concept of Maya and Moksha, this is a concept that is ethereal in its own sense. It means that there is no beginning and end to the expanse of the universe. Hindus believe that this is the one day that brings good fortune, joy and prosperity. Most people believe that this is the one day on which one has to be benevolent. This means that they will have to extend monetary help to people who are in need. It is believed to be of good karma and people think that the good that they do will, some day come back to them, in the form of blessings from the gods and goddesses.

For instance, for students it might be a course that they wanted to take up, for businessmen to invest in something, for people to choose a date of travel, for the initiation of a new building or things like that. In addition to this, it is proposed that those Hindu and Jain children who are born on this particular day will lead a prosperous and successful life. All of these are said to have good chances with fate and with luck if they are initiated on this particular day. One of the important elements of this day during the year is the ornaments.
