Detailed Information about Akshaya Tritiya Festival & Its Importance

Many of the festivals of the Hindus and the Jains are aligned with the stars in the universe. Many believers are of the perception that there is a cosmic relation between the movement of the stars and the life of people on earth. In a similar line of thought, the holy days for the Jains and the Hindus are related to the stars. There are primarily four very important days for the Hindus and the Vaishaka is one among them. On this month, there is a particular day in co relation to the moon, which is also known as Tithi. And it is on this particular day that the hold day of Akshaya Tritiya falls. As all scholars of Hindu mythology know, the prominent gods in Hindu scriptures have many incarnations and it is on this day that it is believed, Lord Parasurama was born. He is believed to be the sixth among all of his avatars. One of the other important reasons that this day is known to be a sacrilegious is that Hindus believe that it was on this day that the Lord Ganesh began to write the holy book of the Mahabharata.

Now we move on to the etymology of this holy day. The word Akshaya translates to that which does not end. It is in sync with some of the many ideas and concepts of Hinduism and Hindu ideology. Just like the concept of Maya and Moksha, this is a concept that is ethereal in its own sense. It means that there is no beginning and end to the expanse of the universe. Hindus believe that this is the one day that brings good fortune, joy and prosperity. Most people believe that this is the one day on which one has to be benevolent. This means that they will have to extend monetary help to people who are in need. It is believed to be of good karma and people think that the good that they do will, some day come back to them, in the form of blessings from the gods and goddesses.

Other than charity, this is also known to be a day that could be good for one to start something new. For instance, for students it might be a course that they wanted to take up, for businessmen to invest in something, for people to choose a date of travel, for the initiation of a new building or things like that. In addition to this, it is proposed that those Hindu and Jain children who are born on this particular day will lead a prosperous and successful life. All of these are said to have good chances with fate and with luck if they are initiated on this particular day. One of the important elements of this day during the year is the ornaments. Women adorn themselves with gold and golden jewellery. Because of the power that this day wields, it is also said that if one attains knowledge of any kind on this day, it can be of much use.
