Agni Utsav is celebrated mainly in the state of Orissa. This is the main festival of farmers of Orissa. It is celebrated from the middle of January to middle of February. This festival is celebrated to rejoice and respect the power and serenity of the pure and pious 'Fire', the people pray for the prosperity and enhancement of their family and their wealth as they consider the power of fire to be the sign for their good farming.

As the ritual says the burning heap in Agni Utsav predicts the crops of next year. The burning heap flame's direction determines the future of the next crop for the farmers of Orissa. If the flame tilts towards eastward it is predicted that the high tides and saline water would enter into the field and destroy the crop. If the flame tilts towards westwards it is depicted that flood will occur that year and lastly if the flame tilts towards northeast it means good crop and wealth for the farmers. This day is also called as Agira Purnima, this festival not only depicts the culture and tradition of Orissa but also helps in the bondage of bond between the village and the society at the whole. This festival is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm all over India, prior preparations are made to celebrated this festival with joy and rejoice the real essence of it.

The female member of the family starts cleaning up the house a week before the festival and the male member collects the small sticks and straws for contributing in the burning of huge heap with fire. This ritual of this festival is very important for the famers. During this festival whole village is cleaned up for the celebration, this is similar as of bone fire which people organise for picnics and fun. But here this all involves the trust and belief of a farmer to his God 'Fire, festivals similar to this is celebrated in India like Lohri and Holi. The huge heap of straws and sticks are burned with great belief and trust at night, which is enjoyed with family and friends. After the ceremony of bone fire the special prayers are performed in the name of 'Agni Dev' the 'God Fire' and pujas and traditional rituals are performed in order to protect them from the hazard and problems during the crop cultivation.

This festival to worship 'Fire' is a special attraction of this place. The tourists from various parts of the word come here to be a part of this unusual festival. The rural and village development of India enhances the tourism in India.
